I am just starting a greenfield project in VS2008, and would like to use the latest Web Service Factory to set up my WCF services. Will it work with VS2008?

As Ade said in thread #17671,
"Currently we're not supporting VS 2008 (beta or release versions). It's the next think in the pipeline and should be out shortly after VS ships."

OK, thanks. Sorry for not doing a better job with the search :)

Do NOT install VS2008 if you want to use the GATs, even with VS2005. See the thread about not being able to change a datatype in a model.

Can someone please explain me why we still don't have a version compatible with Visual Studio 2008. I mean don't get me wrong, I appreciate that this is 'open source' and 'free' and stuff but seriously why wasn't the priority put on making the Web Service Software Factory compatible with Visual Studio 2008? The beta's have been out for a year and yes I know that it is possible that engines change in the final release but still.

I am ranting because I am so disappointed in the fact that so many tools we used in Visual Studio 2005 or not available for Visual Studio 2008 so I finally start to understand why people say that you should upgrade to newer version when they release the first service pack. A lot of the early adopters are so screwed and Visual Studio 2008 is unuable for a lot of professional developers working on real projects exactly because of the lack of tools compatible with Visual Studio 2008.

Gabriel,

Then WSSF team is working right now to port the current Modeling Edition version to VS2008. The final bits should be available soon after VS2008 comercial release arround Feb/08.

I must agree this is very frustrating and disappointing.

All of Gabriel's points were right on.

The only thing I would like to add to that is that I want the non-modeling edition converted ASAP as well!

After having used the non-modeling edition for so long now, it is taken some getting used to.

Thanks,

There is now a CTP for the Service Factory: Modeling Edition for VS2008. You can get it here:

I have installed the 2008 CTP WSSF package and have created a new project from this in VS2008. However, when I attempt to follow the HOL exercises, none of the options on the right mouse click are available on the Model project. I only have cut, remove, rename and unload roject. Is there anything that I can do to enable the options and allow the guidance package to work properly? Is this a common installation problem?

I also have the same problem. Is this normal?

You may have to enable the Service Factory guidance package from Tools->Guidance Package Manager.

Hope that helps,

I do not have the Tools->Guidance Package Manager menu item and I am still not able to do anything once I create the project. I am able to view the models in the HOL labs but I can't do anything with them other than delete or validate. I have repaired both the Guidance Pkg and the Service Factory and these actions did not fix anything. Any other guidance is much appreciated. I think that this is something that I can use, but I need to be able to get it to work in order to evaluate it.

Did you install the Guidance Automation Extensions May 2007 in Visual Studio 2008 (Orcas) mode? You can't have GAX installed in both, so if you were using it from VS2005, you need to uninstall it (first uninstall any other factories and EntLib), and then reinstall onto VS2008.
