Takes more than 15 minutes first time, after that less than 5 minutes. For Self extraction of tutorial, choose a short directory name,else if you proceed with given name <<< Service Factory - 15 Minute Walkthrough (VS2008)>>> The recipe wont work, and will give errors.

This hands-on lab provides 12 exercises in extending the Web Service Software Factory: Modeling Edition. While most users will not need to modify the factory to the extent that these exercises cover, these are a great way to understand the architecture of the factory from how DSLs are integrated with guidance packages to code generation.

The six core exercises cover adding a new model to the factory:

* Exercise 2: Integrating a Solution Structure in the Service Factory
* Exercise 3: Creating a Business Entity DSL
* Exercise 4: Creating a Text Template
* Exercise 5: Adding a Model Template to the Service Factory

While this package does not have a modeling environment itself, it can be used in conjunction with the Web Service Software Factory: Modeling Edition to secure services developed with the factory. This package can also be used without the Service Factory.

! Summary
The Web Service Software Factory: Modeling Edition (also known as the Service Factory) is an integrated collection of resources designed to help you quickly and consistently build WCF and ASMX Web services that adhere to well-known architecture and design patterns. These resources consist of models with code generation in the form of tools integrated with Visual Studio 2008 and patterns and architecture topics in the form of written guidance.

The Service Factory contains automation and guidance integrated into Visual Studio 2008 for building services. The core of the automation components is a Web services domain model. This domain model contains elements such as service contracts, operations, messages, and data contracts. This domain model manifests itself in the form of three integrated domain-specific languages (DSLs) that are used to model services: Service Contract Model, Data Contract Model, and the Host Model.

In addition to the Visual Studio automation facilities, the Service Factory also contains the relevant written guidance about building Web services - a lot of this documentation came from the December 2006 release. Some of these topics include architecture, message design, versioning, exception handling, and other useful patterns. For a full list of topics that are included, see the “Web Service Architecture” section in the documentation included with the Service Factory.
